Text retelling:
My boss has sent me to PudongAirport to meet some business people from many parts of the world, who are interested in the development of the economy in China.
The first one to arrive is Mr. Garcia from Columbia with Jolia Smith, a British lady, following behind closely. I introduce them to each other and I’m surprised to see Mr. Garcia come up to Ms. Smith, touch her shoolder and kiss her on the cheek while Ms. Smith steps back appearing surprised. Just then, in comes a visitor from Japan, smiling at the time when the Canadian, George Cook reaches out his hand to him. It happens that Mr. Cook’s hand touches the Japanese’s nose as he bows and they both apologize.
So you see, people from different coltures may not greet others in the same way. English people usually do not stand very close to others or touch strangers as people from Spain, Italy and South American countries do. Most people around the world shake hands when they meet while Japanese people will bow. People from Jordan stand quite close to other men and shake hands, but they simply nod to women. And French people shake hands and kiss others on the cheeks.
In a word, body language varies in different coltures and is widely used in communication.
